Did you know that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is also a book? Yes it is!
Did you know that you can relive all the fun and action of The Force Awakens reading the novel? Yes you can!
Did you know that this novelization by Alan Dean Foster is very much like seeing the movie in slow motion? Yes it is!
All these things are true, and so much more. It’s also true that some of the things true of the story in the film are just slightly different in the book. I read the novelization in audio book format (which is narrated by Marc Thompson, and superbly produced) just days after seeing the film for the second time and it really did feel as if I was watching J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars creation frame by frame by frame. Some of the novel was written in such a way that it was as if a court reporter was typing out each scene line by line, and yet ironically, there were certain scenes that seemed to come out of nowhere and were markedly different from the theatrical version. In this video, Tezi and I discuss many of these similarities and divergences.
As always, we had a lot of fun filming this video together and we’re blessed to share it here with you. We hope that you enjoy it and that it inspires you to give the novelization a listen/read. Be sure to tell us your thoughts and let us know where you agree with us and where you take issue on these space opera fictions.
